HR Apprentice

The HR Apprentice will support the HR team in providing an efficient and streamlined service to the business with regard to all HR-related administrative tasks. The successful candidate in this role will be capable of collecting information and imparting it to others. There is a need to be adaptable by nature, and to ensure conformity with rules, systems and protocol.  A natural desire with the work of HR is essential and the person fulfilling the role will need to be friendly and have the ability to communicate HR-related information to non-experts. Standard operating procedures are important aspects of this role and it will require an individual who is persistent, organised, structured, self-controlled and kind. The person fulfilling this role needs to be consistent in approach, have an enquiring and flexible mind and be analytical, sensitive, precise, logical, systematic and compliant.

Role purpose

To provide service-oriented HR support to all staff, within organisational policy and legal requirements.

To provide support to HR colleagues in continually improving procedures and practice to provide a ‘best-in-class’ efficient and cost-effective HR service.

Role objectives
  • Following Standard Operating Procedures:-

Receive information; investigate, clarify and qualify details; prepare appropriate documentation and compose associated correspondence; update the HR Information System, P11D system; liaise with and provide information to managers, staff and other Support Services as required, for the following:-

  • Starts; Leavers; T&C changes (incl. cost code and organisation changes); Probation passes; Sickness absence; Bonuses; Staff Benefit Scheme requests and changes; maternity and other family-friendly policy notifications and requests; Reference requests; Fleet administration
  • Respond to queries, including, but not limited to; requests for epayslip logins and passwords; salary queries, staff benefit details and ways to make the best use of the package of benefits; requests for information from management, staff and authorised third parties (e.g. staff benefits advisors and brokers)
  • Prepare and distribute weekly start/leave lists
  • Prepare and distribute Org chart update as changes occur
  • Support with the preparation of monthly Payroll data
  • Maintain and keep up to date paper filing system
  • Provide support as required for PA to Directors and Development Administrator
  • Highlight information to HR colleagues regarding issues arising that may require management attention
  • Compose correspondence to Line Managers and staff regarding individual situations
  • Contribute to HR Updates for Managers and staff
  • Provide additional support and added value across all areas of HR as opportunities allow
Preferable Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade A-C or equivalent
  • Basic awareness of employment law
  • Administration experience is desirable
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and circumstances
