Which AAT qualification should you choose?
If you’re hoping to start an accountancy career or further the one you already have, an AAT full-time or part-time course will undoubtedly steer you in the right direction. Studying an AAT qualification alongside practical real-world experience is the ideal way to land you the accountancy job of your dreams. The AAT course you choose to complete will be dependent on your previous experience.
AAT Introductory Award in Accounting (AAT Access) – This course is made for those with little to no experience in accountancy. It gives you the skills and basic knowledge you need to begin your accounting career, enabling you to carry on with further AAT courses or seek junior or assistant accounting roles.
AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting (Level 2) – The Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting will add another boost to your accounting career, teaching you the business practices skills vital to accounting. You can use this qualification to apply for basic accounting roles which are a step up the ladder from junior positions.
AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Level 3) – In this course, you’ll learn more intricate and advanced accounting skills to further your professional career in accounting. This course is suitable for those who have already completed a Level 2 or already have ample experience working in an accounting role.
AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting (Level 4) – This is the final step in the AAT qualification and provides you with the knowledge and skills needed for specialist professional accounting roles. By completing the Professional Diploma, you can apply for management and other higher roles. Completing this qualification will also earn you exemptions from the early stages of many Chartered Accountancy pathways.
Our courses are available individually, but we also offer the option to study AAT online in course bundles. This means you don’t have to worry about enroling again each time. We offer AAT Level 2 & 3, Level 3 & 4 or Level 2, 3 & 4 packages. For a full rundown of the courses and what you can expect in more detail, visit the individual AAT course pages.

What is the duration of an AAT course?
Each course varies in length, depending on your learning style, your other commitments and the amount of content in the course. For example, the Level 4 AAT course includes tuition and access to the campus for 24 months, but is typically completed in 19 months. Each course offers tuition and guidance for longer than it typically takes to complete all the work. This allows you flexibility and covers for emergencies, holidays or any other issues that may arise during the time of your home studies. If you reach the end of your tuition period and still haven’t been able to complete your qualification, you can purchase a tutor extension package to continue studying.
“AVADO take the “distant” out of distance learning. They provide high levels of support and receive strong student engagement as a result, while they encourage progression through the entire AAT qualification.”
Nicky Fisher, AAT Past President
“This course has that structure and pace that is manageable and most importantly keeps me constantly engaged. I like that you can easily contact the tutor by phone or email and talk to classmates on the student forum giving each other tips and encouraging each other to push through.”
Sarah Eve Tucker, AAT Graduate
