The ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting & Business F4-F9 consists of the fourth to ninth papers of the full ACCA qualification:

LW: Corporate & Business Law (ENG) (F4)
PM: Performance Management (F5)
TX: Taxation (UK) (F6)
FR: Financial Reporting (F7)
AA: Audit and Assurance (F8)
FM: Financial Management (F9)

The course covers the fundamentals of accounting systems and the financial processes used within businesses, as well as detailing the professional and ethical skills needed within an accountancy practice. See below for a summary of the learning outcomes of each paper.

 

LW Corporate and Business Law (ENG) (F4)

 

Develop knowledge and skills in the understanding of the general legal framework, and of specific legal areas relating to business. Learn to recognise when there is the need to seek further specialist legal advice.

On successful completion of this paper, you will be able to:

  • Identify the essential elements of the legal system, including the main sources of law
  • Recognise and apply the appropriate legal rules relating to the law of obligations
  • Explain and apply the law relating to employment relationships
  • Distinguish between alternative forms and constitutions of business organisations
  • Recognise and compare types of capital and the financing of companies
  • Describe and explain how companies are managed, administered and regulated
  • Recognise the legal implications relating to insolvency law
  • Demonstrate an understanding of corporate fraudulent and criminal behaviour.

 

PM Performance Management (F5)

 

Develop knowledge and skills in the application of management accounting techniques to quantitative and qualitative information for planning, decision-making, performance evaluation, and control.

On successful completion of this paper, you will be able to:

  • Explain and apply cost accounting techniques
  • Select and appropriately apply decision-making techniques to facilitate business decisions and effective use of business resources
  • Identify and apply appropriate budgeting techniques and methods for planning and control
  • Use standard costing systems to measure and control business performance and to identify remedial action
  • Assess the performance of an organisation from both a financial and nonfinancial viewpoint

TX Taxation (UK) 

Develop knowledge and skills relating to the tax system as applicable to individuals, single companies, and groups of companies.

On successful completion of this paper, you will be able to:

Explain the operation and scope of the tax system and the obligations of taxpayer

  • Explain and compute the income tax liabilities of individuals and the effect of national insurance contributions (NIC) on employees, employers and the self-employed
  • Explain and compute the chargeable gains arising on individuals
  • Explain and compute the inheritance tax liabilities of individuals
  • Explain and compute the corporation tax liabilities of individual companies and groups of companies
  • Explain and compute the effects of value added tax on incorporated and unincorporated businesses

FR Financial Reporting (F7)

Understand and apply accounting standards and theory in the preparation of financial statements and learn how to analyse and interpret those financial statements.

On successful completion of this paper, you will be able to:

  • Discuss and apply conceptual and regulatory frameworks for financial reporting
  • Account for transactions in accordance with International accounting standards
  • Analyse and interpret financial statements
  • Prepare and present financial statements for single entities and business combinations in accordance with International accounting standards.

AA Audit and Assurance (F8)

Develop knowledge and understanding of the process of carrying out the assurance engagement and its application in the context of the professional regulatory framework.

On successful completion of this paper, you will be able to:

  • Explain the concept of audit and assurance and the functions of audit
  • Demonstrate how the auditor obtains an understanding of the entity, assesses the risk of material misstatement and plans an audit of financial statements
  • Describe and evaluate internal controls, techniques and audit tests, making appropriate recommendations
  • Identify and describe the work and evidence obtained by the and the application of the International Standards on Auditing
  • Explain conclusions from audit work and different types of audit report.

FM Financial Management (F9)

To develop the knowledge and skills expected of a finance manager, in relation to investment, financing, and dividend policy decisions.

On successful completion of this paper, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the role and purpose of the financial management function
  • Assess and discuss the impact of the economic environment on financial management
  • Discuss and apply working capital management techniques
  • Carry out effective investment appraisal
  • Identify and evaluate alternative sources of business finance
  • Discuss and apply principles of business and asset valuations
  • Explain and apply risk management techniques in business.
