About The Role
This role is one of the key roles for the Mobile category at AO, which is one of the most recent business area to group the AO Group!
As the mobile business is built on commissions from line-rentals on a monthly basis, the revenues of the business are recognised on an accrued basis and then collected over approximately 2 years. The information coming from the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) is crucial to understanding contract revenue and ongoing profitability of the category; therefore, this role helps shape both the governance and control of the balance sheets, but also the commercial assumptions for future contracts.
Ultimately, the key responsibility of this role is to ensure we have set correct expectations for collection of cash from the networks across the (appx) 24 months and that we properly understand (and action, where necessary) any variances between this and actual cash received. This work heavily supports the calculations for revenue booked each month and the debtor/creditor balances we hold for each network at any point in time. To succeed in the role, it’s essential the successful candidate has a passion for getting stuck in to the detail and working with all the specifics of the situation in hand.
Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing
The day to day tasks of this role include:
- Validating commercial calculations to set an expectation of cash to be received
- Working with the relevant teams to ensure our expectations include the correct base of customers
- Reconciling the payment information (by customer) from the networks against the expectations we have, understanding any differences and ensuring any actions from these gaps are communicated across the business as necessary
- Processing claims against the networks for missed/under payments
- Forecasting network cash due to be received
- Working with our external BI team
- Owning and explaining the revenue recognised each month vs expectations
- Owning the network related balance sheet reconciliations
A Few Things About You
The Network Analyst needs to be a person who thrives when working in the detail, and will require being very competent working with, and manipulating, very large data sets in excel.
The role requires using various pieces of software/systems, so being adaptable is a key characteristic required for the successful candidate. Implementing and maintaining high standards of controls, timetables and procedures will also be key requirement of the candidate, since slips in any of these areas can result in contract breaches/financial penalties for the company.
Understanding of basic accounting principles will be a significant advantage, as the role will involve posting basic revenue and cost journals, reviewing P&L lines and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
Some experience with Oracle CRM, Microsoft Access, and/or in the telecoms industry would be beneficial, but none are essential.
