Trainee Business Analyst (Grade 3 progressing to Grade 5 on successful completion of the Professional Learning Programme over three years.)

 We are looking for two Trainee Business Analyst to join IT Services at the University of Manchester to work on projects that underpin critical University systems and processes.

The Trainee Business Analyst will work alongside experienced Business Analysts to investigate operational requirements, problems, and opportunities.

They will contribute towards providing effective business solutions through new or changed processes. They will assist in the analysis of stakeholder objectives, the investigation of underlying issues and identification of options for consideration.

The trainee will undertake assignments across project and/or service functions as required.

You will have the ability to solve problems, be an effective communicator, establishing relationships and maintaining contacts with people from a variety of backgrounds. Be able to apply appropriate quality standards to all tasks undertaken and ensuring that nothing is overlooked. You will also have the ability to prioritise your own workload, considering deadlines and prioritise accordingly.

To support you in this role and your development as a Trainee Business Analyst you will receive full training and a tailored package of support as part of a Professional Learning Programme, which includes formal apprenticeship training. As part of this programme, you will be expected to attend training and development to support your continuous professional development in this role. To be eligible for appointment to this role you must meet the eligibility criteria for this programme.

Additional Information

To progress through the Grades, the apprentice will need to have successfully met their learning criteria and their work performance objectives over three years. If these milestones have been fulfilled, the apprentice will progress to the next grade and pay point—starting at Grade 3 in year one, Grade 4 in year two and progressing through to Grade 5 by start of year three.

The professional learning programme will involve attendance on courses relevant to the role. The courses that form part of this apprenticeship may be a mixture of online-delivered and face-to-face training courses.


Grade: Grade 3 progressing to Grade 5 on successful completion of the Professional Learning Programme over three years.

Starting salary: £21,686
£27,924 p.a. (On successful completion of the Professional Learning Programme over three years.)
