Last week I caught up with Emma Gribben – Digital guru, Google Digital Academy Trainer and now DANI Award winner for “Best Young Digital Person”!
Here’s what she had to say about her recent success, hard work and the importance of building a great network…
|Emma Gribben often crosses paths with people who say “wow, you run your own business! You must have so much free time to do whatever you’d like”. It honestly couldn’t be further from the truth.
Of being self-employed, Emma says: ‘it’s really long hours, relentless sometimes, but when you’re truly passionate about something, it’s hard to stop! That’s why I’m so proud of winning the award – it feels like I really earned it. It’s taken 3 years to build my business. The DANI award was just down to hard work and commitment, not through 1 particular campaign or someone putting a good word in. ‘
Emma’s business splits into three key areas: consultancy, digital training and digital mentoring. She counts herself as ‘very lucky’ that she gets to work with AVADO and Google on the digital training side in a European-wide context. ‘I can’t stress how much I’ve learnt from just meeting and talking to lots of new people! This role has opened up a wonderful opportunity to connect with others.’, she says.
The diversity of Emma’s business and networking weren’t the only reasons why she was recognised with a DANI Award. The judges fed back that her “passion and energy for digital” was what really shone through and it certainly showed when I spoke with her this week.
When I asked Emma what the award meant to her, she said ‘it’s recognition of my hard work and for being passionate about encouraging young people to consider entrepreneurial, digital marketing and tech roles’. Alongside consulting and training, Emma is a mentor for UK Young Enterprise, Northern Ireland where she goes into schools and speaks about the different roles she’s experienced and discovered working in the industry.
In her free time (when she has the odd moment!) Emma says she ‘loves to explore new places…the States, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Canada, Europe…all over!’. Her passion for Digital and travel, Emma says, are linked by the notion that ‘you never know what you’re going to find’.
